SPECIAL PROGRAMS

A variety of programs to meet the temporary acute needs of our customers.

MARYLAND ENERGY ASSISTANCE

  1. 1537 Families received an average grant of $238.
  2. 369 Families were in a crisis situation at time of application.
  3. 503 Families joined the Utility Service Program for an affordable budget.
  4. 90 Families were referred to the Weatherization Assistance Program.
  5. 4 Shelters received a total of $5,306.
  6. TOTAL BENEFITS PAID $365,270.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/RAPE CRISIS CENTER

  1. Received $5000 medical allocation from DSS Board to assist uninsured customers with medical costs.
  2. Entered into partnership with Union Hospital to purchase prescription medication for uninsured customers at hospital cost.
  3. Collaborated with Office of Housing and Community Development for participation in Family Unification Program, allowing qualified families of domestic violence to secure Section 8 housing.
  4. Developed program to offer services and assistance with filing for a Civil Order of Protection to DV victims.
  5. New Parenting Group for residents conducted weekly.
  6. Development and implementation of Teenage Sexual Assault Group.
  7. Increase in individual counseling provided in local high schools for sexual assault victims.
  8. Provided numerous trainings for DSS workers on domestic violence/sexual assault issues and effects.
  9. Presentation to Head Start on identifying child victims of domestic abuse.
  10. 3006 Hotline calls.
  11. 308 individuals sheltered (3291 bed nights).
  12. 1174 in on-going counseling
