Welcome to the Kent County Department of Social Services (KCDSS)
Dear Kent County Residents:
Thank you for taking time to visit the Kent County Department of Social Services webpage. We hope you find this website helpful and informative. Our government agency assists people in need by administering a wide range of public assistance programs.
Primarily, we help low-income people as well as families and children in crises. We help low-income county residents access food stamps, medical assistance and temporary cash assistance. We can help pay heating bills when people lack the income to pay it themselves. In addition to this assistance, we also collect and distribute child support payments.
Furthermore, we investigate allegations of abuse and neglect of children and adults. At times, the silent victims of family violence and volatile family dynamics are children. We work with families to keep children safe and remain with their families whenever possible. To assist in this endeavor we provide family preservation services, foster care if a child has to be removed from the home temporarily, reunification services, adoption services, and post-adoption services. If you want to report suspected abuse or neglect of a vulnerable child or adult please call 410-810-7600.
The Kent County Department of Social Services is the local office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR). As always, we stand ready to answer questions and provide guidance and direction on how to access the services and programs we offer.
If there are ever ways that we can be helpful - to you, a family member or a friend of yours - please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. A list of important telephone numbers for the Kent County Department of Social Services can be found here.
Sincerely,
Linda Webb
Director
