The Maryland Department of Human Resources is partnering with the following entities to offer training and paid internships to our customers.

Biotechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc.
Through its Lab Associates Program, the BioTechnical Institute of Maryland, Inc. (BTI) trains motivated high-school graduates for laboratory technician positions. The program includes nine weeks of classroom instruction and lab exercises, a 100-hour paid internship and job placement assistance. As an MHEC-approved program, BTI’s Laboratory Associates graduates receive six (6) credits from Baltimore City Community College. Individuals who require remediation may enroll in the 12-week BioStart Program as a precursor to enrollment in the Lab Associates Program. BTI places 75% of program graduates in jobs.
Department of Housing and Community Development – Weatherization Assistance Program
Department of Housing and Community Development – Weatherization Assistance Program
The Department of Human Resources (DHR) will fund training and paid internships with local weatherization agencies or their contractors. This partnership with the Department of Housing and Community Development's Weatherization Assistance Program will enable MD RISE customers to obtain job-specific skills and work experience in home weatherization and exposure to the field of "green" jobs.
Maryland Center for Arts and Technology
Maryland Center for Arts and Technology
Maryland Center for Arts & Technology offers a Certified Nursing Assistant training program. Upon completion, students are eligible to be placed on the Maryland State Board of Nursing Registry. Program graduates may take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam in order to work as a Care Associate or Certified Nursing Assistant. DHR funds the training. 80% of graduates find jobs.

CVS/pharmacy

CVS/pharmacy offers a training program, which includes a paid internship component. For the pharmacy and photo lab technician tracks, graduates of the training program receive an industry-recognized credential. CVS/pharmacy has a clearly defined career ladder that graduates may pursue. CVS guarantees 100% placement.

 

Baltimore City Community College Baltimore City Community College - Operated by the Baltimore City Community College (BCCC), the "Jump-Start" Program will offer one year of education/training in "critical need" fields, job placement support and supportive services.
Open Society Institute (OSI) – Baltimore

The Department has submitted a proposal for an adult workforce development partnership with Center for Urban Families, Civic Works, Group Ministries and Job Opportunities Task Force to offer training and paid internships for 141 individuals. Training and paid internships will be offered in an array of industries including construction, energy efficiency, administrative support and healthcare.

Baltimore Ex-offender Re-entry Employment (BERE) Program

The BERE Program is a partnership between the Work First Foundation, in collaboration with America Works of Maryland, the Abell Foundation and DHR to offer training and job placement services to parole violators.

Maryland Center for Arts and Technology
Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation

DLLR has paid internship opportunities in multiple divisions such as the Office of Financial Regulation and the Tax Credits and Foreign Certification Unit.

HB 268 ("Green" Jobs Legislation)

With the assistance of Baltimore Gas & Electric, Maryland Energy Administration, Maryland Department of General Services and the Department of Housing and Community Development, the Department is seeking to develop paid internship partnerships with contractors in “green” industries.

Maryland Center for Arts and Technology
Department of Business and Economic Development

DBED is interested in exploring opportunities for paid internships/apprenticeships at their offices and with private employers.

 

Policy Studies, Inc. will develop paid internship opportunities in areas such as document imaging and call center support, which will be open to MD RISE customers in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The Department will fund the paid internships.
