Interstate Compact Placement Children

Maryland sends and receives children across state lines for foster care and adoption. The state is actively involved in promoting the best interests of children through our participation in the ICPC. The uniform law has been enacted by all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It establishes orderly procedures for the placement of children over state lines for foster care or adoption and it outlines the responsibilities of all parties in placing a child. Detailed information can be found in the American Public Human Services Association’s guide to the ICPC, 2002, http://icpc.aphsa.org/Home/Doc/Guidebook_2002.pdf
